தூதனின் தேடல் – பாகம் – II

6 ஆண்டுகளில் இருவரின் உலகமும் தலைகீழாய் மாறி போனது. கேப்ரியலும் டியானாவும் தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் வெவ்வேறு பாதைகளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தனர். அந்த திருமண விழாவுக்குப் பிறகு, அவர்களின் நட்பு மெதுமெதுவாய் மறைய தொடங்கியது. அவர்களின் செல்போன் அழைப்புகளும் குறுஞ்செய்திகளும் முதலாம் ஆண்டின் இறுதியில் கணிசமாய் குறைந்து போயின. இரண்டாம் ஆண்டின் முடிவில், கேப்ரியல் டியானாவுடன் இருந்த எல்லா தொடர்பையும் இழந்துவிட்டான்.

கேப்ரியல் தனது மாடலிங் வேலையில் சிறந்து விளங்கினான். படிப்படியாக முன்னேறி, விரைவில் அமெரிக்க பேஷன் துறையின் சிறந்த மாடல்களில் ஒருவனானான். ஆனால் அவனது கேள்விகளுக்கான விடை புதிராகவே இருந்தது. அவன் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும், இரவும்பகலும், தான் சந்தித்த ஒவ்வொரு மனிதர்களிடமும் தேடியும் பயனில்லை. அவன் நிறைய ஆராய்ச்சி செய்தான். புத்தகங்களில் தன் விடையை தேடினான் – எல்லாம் தோல்வியில் தான் போய் முடிந்தது.

ஒருமுறை வயதான ஒரு பாதிரியாரோடு உரையாடும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. அந்த பாதிரியார் அவனிடம்,

“பரலோக விதிகளின்படி, பாவம் 5 நிலைகளாக வகைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நிலை 1 எளிய மனித குறைபாடுகளை உள்ளடக்கியது – பொய்கள், கோபம், சாபங்கள் போன்றவை …….

நிலை 2 என்பது செல்வம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட குற்றங்களை உள்ளடக்கியது – மோசடிகள், பிக் பாக்கெட்டிங், கொள்ளை போன்றவை ……..

நிலை 3 சக மனிதர்களுக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்களை உள்ளடக்கியது – கொலை, கற்பழிப்பு, குடிபோதையில் அல்லது போதைப்பொருளினால் ஏற்படும் விபத்துக்கள்……..

நிலை 4 குழந்தைகளுக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்களை உள்ளடக்கியது – சிறுவர் ஆபாச படங்கள், குழந்தை கடத்தல் ……..

நிலை 5 – மிக கொடூர, பல உயிர்களை கொன்று குவிக்கும் குற்றங்களான – குண்டுவெடிப்பு,  இனப்படுகொலை, போர் ……… போன்றவற்றுடன் தற்கொலையையும் உள்ளடக்கியது.

பரலோக சட்டங்கள் தற்கொலையை மிக கொடிய பாவமாக கருதுகிறது”.

மனிதர்களின் வேண்டுதல்களையும் சொர்க்கத்தின் பதில்களையும் கொண்டு சேர்க்கும் சாதாரண தூதனாக இருந்தவன் கேப்ரியல். இந்த செய்தி அவரை அதிர்ச்சிக்குள்ளாக்கியது. “ஏன் இப்படி ஒரு சட்டம்?” என்று அவன் பாதிரியாரை வினவினான். ஆனால் மௌனம் மட்டுமே அவனுக்கு பதிலாக கிடைத்தது. “நான் கண்டுபிடிக்க வேண்டியது இதுதான் போல – அத்தகைய சட்டத்தின் பின்னணியில் உள்ள காரணம்” என்று கேப்ரியல் தனக்கு தானே சொல்லிக் கொண்டான்.

அன்று இரவு, கேப்ரியல் தனது மிகச்சிறந்த உடைகளில் ஒன்றை அணிந்திருந்தான். மின்னலாய் ஒளிர்ந்த அந்த சிவப்பு கோட் சூட் அவனை அழகை இன்னும் மெருகேற்றியது. ஒவ்வொரு முறை அவன் ஸ்பாட் லைட்டின் கீழ் நிற்கும் போதெல்லாம் சுற்றி உள்ளவர்களுக்கு அவன் தேவதை போல தோன்றினான் – அதனால் ஃபேஷன் துறையில் ஃபாலன் ஏஞ்சல் என்பது அவனது புனைப்பெயராக மாறி போனது. கேப்ரியல் தனது காருக்குள் நுழைந்து தனது பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கினான், பாஃப்டா அகாடமி விருது விழாவில் பங்கேற்பதற்காக முதல் முறையாக லண்டனிற்கு வந்திருந்தான் கேப்ரியல். அவனது முதல் திரைப்படத்திற்காக ரைசிங் ஸ்டார் பிரிவின் கீழ் அவன் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தான். நிச்சயம் விருதை வென்று விடுவோம் என்ற நம்பிக்கை அவனுக்கு.

அவனது கார் மெதுவாக நகரத்தின் பகட்டான பகுதியை நோக்கி நகர்ந்தது. சுற்றிலும் வண்ண வண்ண விளக்குகள் ஜொலி ஜொலிக்க ஒய்யார கட்டிடங்கள் அந்த வீதியை அலங்கரித்தன. அதின் நடுவில் ஆடம்பரமான ஓர் உணவகத்தின் பிரமாண்ட கதவுகள் பணக்காரர்களில் வருகைக்காய் திறக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. இத்தகைய பகட்டு வாழ்க்கையை கேப்ரியல் ஒரு போதும் விரும்பியதில்லை. ஆனால் இந்த உணவகம் அவன் கண்களை கட்டி இழுத்தது. தன்னையும் அறியாமல் அவன் வேக வேகமாய் அதின் வாசல்களை அடைந்தான்.

ராஜாக்களுக்காகவே கட்டப்பட்ட அரண்மனை போல் தோன்றியது அந்த உணவகம். எங்கும் பொன் நிறம் போர்த்தப்பட்ட மேசைகளும் பளிங்கு போல் மின்னிய அதின் தளங்களும் – அதின் வாயில்களில் உள் நுழையும் அனைவரையும் மெய் மறக்க செய்தது. மிகுந்த கவனத்துடன் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த அதின் நாற்காலிகள் ஒன்றினுள் அமர்ந்தான் கேப்ரியல். அங்கிருந்து பணியாளர் ஒருவர் அவனிடம் மெனுவை நீட்டினான். வாயில் நுழையாத அந்த வினோத பெயர்களும் சாதாரண மனிதனை கலங்கடிக்கும் வகையில் இருந்த அதின் விலையும் – பணக்காரர்களின் உலகம் வித்தியாசமானது என்பதை அவனுக்கு உணர்த்தியது. ஒரு எஸ்பிரெசோ மற்றும் ஒரு சீஸ் கேக்கை ஆர்டர் செய்தான். கேப்ரியல் தனது செல்போனை எடுத்து தனது இன்ஸ்டாகிராம் பக்கத்தை ஸ்க்ரோல் செய்தான். அவனது ரசிகர்கள் அவனை உற்சாகப்படுத்தி, விருது நிச்சயம் அவனுக்கு தான்  என்று கூச்சலிடும் வீடியோக்கள் இருந்தன. அவர்களின் அன்பு அவன் முகத்தில் சிரிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

உணவகத்தின் மறுமுனையில் இருந்து எழுந்த உரத்த சத்தங்கள் அவன் கவனத்தை கலைத்தது. கோபத்தின் உச்சியில் ஒரு மனிதன் கொந்தளித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தன். அவன் எதிரே ஒரு இளம் பெண் தலை குனிந்து நின்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தாள். அவள் அந்த உணவகத்தின் பணியாளர்களில் ஒருவள். சண்டை வலுக்க தொடங்கியது. சற்று நேரத்தில் அந்த மனிதன் ஓங்கி அறைந்தான். மொத்த உணவகமும் அமைதியில் ஆழ்ந்தது. அதற்க்கு மேல் பொறுக்க முடியாமல் கண்களில் கண்ணீருடன் அந்த பெண் வாசலை நோக்கி ஓடினாள்.

அந்தப் பெண் கேப்ரியல் இருந்த மேசையை கடந்து செல்கையில், அவளின் முகம் அவனை திடுக்கிட செய்தது.

கண்ணீரில் ஒளிந்திருந்த அந்த கண்கள்

ஒரு காலத்தில் நம்பிக்கையும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் நிறைந்த அதே கண்கள்

அவனுக்கு உயிர்வாழ வலிமை கொடுத்த அதே கண்கள்

அவனது கேள்விகளுக்கு பதில் தந்த அதே கண்கள்

அவனது காவல் தேவதையின் கண்கள்

டியானாவின் கண்கள்!!

கண்ணீரில் மூழ்கியிருந்த அந்த பெண் டியானா என்பதை அவனால் நம்ப முடியவில்லை. அவன் அதிர்ச்சியில் இருந்து மீள்வதற்குள் அந்த பெண் அங்கிருந்து மறைந்து விட்டாள். தனது செல்போன் கீழே விழுந்தது கூட தெரியாமல் கேப்ரியல் அந்த பெண்ணை நோக்கி வேகமாய் ஓட்டம் பிடித்தான்.

அவன் உணவகத்தின் வாயிலை அடைந்ததும் அவன் கண்ட காட்சி அவனை நிலைகுலைய செய்தது. டியானா நடுரோட்டில் கண்ணீருடன் நின்றுக்கொண்டிருந்தாள். ஒரு பெரிய டிரக் மின்னல் வேகத்தில் அவளை நோக்கி பாய்ந்துக் கொண்டிருந்தது.

தன்னை நோக்கி வந்த அந்த டிரக்கை கண்டும்

உயிரற்ற சிலை போல் அதின் பாதையில் அவள் நின்றாள்

சுற்றி இருந்தவர்களின் கூக்குரல்கள் அவள் காதில் விழவில்லை

மரணத்தை ஆவலாய் எதிர்பார்த்து

தன் முடிவை எதிர்பார்த்து காத்திருந்தாள்

அன்றிரவு கேப்ரியல் கண்ட அந்த காட்சி அவனை சுக்கு நூறாய் உடைத்து போட்டது. அவன் மூளை செயல்பட மறுத்து விட்டது. என்ன செய்வதென்று புரியாமல் திகைத்து நின்றான். தன் இதயத்தை இறுக்கமாகப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு, அவன் கண்களை வானத்தை நோக்கி உயர்த்தினான். “இறைவா! அவளை காப்பாற்று” என்று கண்ணீருடன் கெஞ்சினான். 

அந்த நொடியில், ஒரு அதிசயம் நிகழ தொடங்கியது. நேரம் அசையாமல் நின்றது. டியானா, அவளை நோக்கி விரைந்து வந்த டிரக் மற்றும் அந்த இரவில் பெய்து கொண்டிருந்த மழையின் சாரல்கள் – அனைத்தும் நின்று போயின.

எங்கிருந்தோ தோன்றிய தீ மேகம் கேப்ரியலை சூழ்ந்துக் கொண்டது. இந்த மொத்த கதையும் தோன்றிய அதே இடத்திற்கு அவனை மீண்டும் கொண்டு சேர்த்தது – ஜுபிலி விழாவில் அந்த சின்ன மேடையில் அவன் நின்ற அதே இடத்திற்கு. மனித உலகில் அவன் 7 ஆண்டுகளை செலவழித்திருக்கலாம். ஆனால் சொர்க்கத்தில் அது வெறும் 7 நிமிடங்கள் தான். அந்த தூதர்களின் கூட்டம் அவன் வார்த்தைகளை கேட்க அமைதியாய் காத்திருந்தது.

கேப்ரியல் அந்த சிறிய மேடையில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தான், ஆயிரக்கணக்கான தூதர்கள் அவனது பதிலுக்காக ஆர்வமாய் கத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். ஆனால் அவை எதுவும் அந்த நேரத்தில் அவனுக்கு முக்கியமாய் தோன்றவில்லை. துக்கம் தொண்டையை அடைக்க, கண்ணீருடன் பேச தொடங்கினான் கேப்ரியல்.

“கடவுளே நீங்கள் அதை பார்த்தீர்களா? டியானா அங்கு மரணத்தின் விளிம்பில் நின்றுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாள்! அவள் தன் வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொள்ள முடிவெடுத்து விட்டாள். அந்த நொடியில் கூட என்னால் எதுவும் செய்ய முடியவில்லை. அவளை அங்கு கண்ட நொடியிலேயே என் ஆன்மாவின் ஒரு பகுதி செத்துவிட்டது. அவளுக்கு மட்டும் எதாவது ஆனால், என்னால் நிச்சயம் என்னையே மன்னிக்க முடியாது. அத்தகைய பாரத்தை என்னால் நிச்சயம் சுமக்க முடியாது. அவள் இல்லாத உலகில் என்னால் நிச்சயம் வாழ முடியாது. உயிர் உள்ளவரை நம்பிக்கை உண்டு என்று எனக்கு கற்று தந்தவளே அவள் தான். அவள் இப்படி ஒரு முடிவை ஏன் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தாள் என்று எனக்கு புரியவில்லை. ஆனால் எப்படியாவது அவளை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும். எதாவது செய்யுங்கள் கடவுளே! அவளை எப்படியாவது காப்பாற்றுங்கள்!” என்று கேப்ரியல் கதறினான்.

கடவுள் அவரைப் பார்த்து புன்னகைத்தார், “ கடைசியில் என் குட்டி தூதன் தன் கேள்விக்கான பதிலை கண்டு பிடித்து விட்டன்” என்று கூறினார். தூதர்கள் குழப்பத்தில் தங்களுக்குள் கிசுகிசுத்தனர். விரைவில் கடவுள் பேசத் தொடங்கினார், “மனிதர்கள் உயிருடன் இருக்கும் வரை அவர்களின் மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைவதர்க்கான பாதை அவர்களை நிச்சயம் வந்தடையும். ஆனால் அதையும் தாண்டி மிக முக்கியமானதொன்றை அவர்கள் ஏற்க மறுக்கிறார்கள் – அவர்களின் சுயநலச் செயலின் பின்விளைவு – அவர்களின் மரணம் அவர்களை சுற்றி உள்ளவர்கள் மீது ஏற்படுத்தும் தாக்கம். அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாழ்வின் முடிவை தேர்ந்தெடுக்கும் அந்த நொடியில் தங்களை சுற்றி  உள்ளவர்களையும் கொன்று புதைக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் விட்டு செல்லும் அவர்கள் நண்பர்களும் உறவினார்களும் தொடர்ந்து குற்ற உணர்ச்சியுடன் வாழ்கின்றனர். ஒருவேளை, அன்றைய தினம் நான் மட்டும் அவனுக்கு போன் செய்து அவனுடன் பேசி இருந்தால் அவன் நிச்சயம் அப்படி ஒரு முடிவை தேர்ந்தெடுத்திருக்க மாட்டான். ஒரு வேளை நான் மட்டும் அன்று கோப படாமல் பொறுமையாக பேசி இருந்திதால், என் மகள் இன்று உயிருடன் இருந்திருப்பாள். நாம் மட்டும் அவனை இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் அன்பாய் நடத்தியிருந்தால், அவனின் இனிய சிரிப்பை இன்று கண்டிருக்கலாம் – என்னும் குற்ற உணர்ச்சியே அவர்களை கொன்று விடுகிறது.

தற்கொலை என்பது தனிமனிதனின் முடிவைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பது மட்டுமல்ல – அவர்களை நேசித்த மக்களை வாழ்வை துயரத்திலும் குற்ற உணர்ச்சியிலும் மூழ்கடிக்கும் வெறி செயல் – ஒரு இன படுகொலை” என்றார் கடவுள். அந்த தூதர்கள் கூட்டம் முழுதும் மௌனத்தில் ஆழ்ந்தது. சில முகங்களில் கண்ணீரும் தோன்றியது. கேப்ரியல் கேட்ட வார்த்தைகள் அவனை பயத்தில் மூழ்கடித்தது. எப்படியாவது டீனாவைக் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும் என்னும் நினைவு அவனை உறுதியாய் பற்றிக் கொண்டது.

கடவுள் கேப்ரியேலை நோக்கி, “நீ உன் பணியை வெற்றிகரமாக முடித்தற்கான வெகுமதியாக 50 மனித ஆண்டுகளை உனக்கு பரிசாக அளிக்கிறேன். போ! சீக்கிரம் போய் என் மகள் டியானவை காப்பாற்று. நீ இன்று உணர்ந்த இந்த உண்மையை உன்னால் முடிந்த வரை மற்றவர்களுக்கு சொல்ல மறந்துவிடாதே. அது நிச்சயம் பல உயிர்களை காப்பாற்றும்” என்று புன்னகையுடன் கூறினார் கடவுள். அவனை சூழ்ந்த அந்த நெருப்பு மேகம் அவனை மீண்டும் அதே நொடிக்கு கொண்டு வந்தது – நம்பிக்கையை இழந்து நின்ற அந்த நொடிக்கு. தன் பலத்தை எல்லாம் ஒன்று திரட்டிக் கொண்டு டியானாவை நோக்கி ஓட தொடங்கினான் கேப்ரியல்.

கண்ணீரில் நனைந்த கண்களுடன் சாலையின் மையத்தில் நின்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தாள் டியானா. அந்த 6 ஆண்டுகளில் வாழ்க்கை தாங்க முடியாததாக வலியை தந்தது. இன்றைய நிகழ்வுகள் அவளிடம் மிச்சம் இருந்த கொஞ்ச நம்பிக்கையையும் அழித்து விட்டது.

அவள் தன்வாழ்க்கைக்கு முற்றுப் புள்ளி வைக்க முடிவு செய்தாள். அவளை நோக்கி பாய்ந்து வந்த அந்த ட்ரக்கின் பாதையில் நின்றாள். கடைசியாய் ஒரு முறை தன் உலகை சுற்றி பார்வையிட்டாள். நிலவொளியில் வைரம் போல் மின்னும் அந்த சிவப்பு நிற மனிதன் தன்னை நோக்கி ஓடி வருவதை அவள் கண்கள் கண்டன – அவன் கண்களில் தெரிந்த அந்த காதல் அவளின் பழைய வாழ்வை ஞாபகப்படுத்தியது. அமெரிக்காவில் அவள் கழித்த அந்த இனிய நாட்கள், அவள் விரும்பிய அவளது வேலை, அவள் மீது அதீத அன்பு வைத்திருக்கும் அவள் பெற்றோர்கள். எப்போதும் குறும்பு தனமாய் சற்றி வந்த கேப்ரியல் – அவனிடம் அவள் கூறிய அந்த கடைசி வரிகள் – உயிர் உள்ளவரை நம்பிக்கை உண்டு என்னும் வார்த்தைகள் அவள் காதில் தொனித்தன. “இது தவறு, இது முட்டாள்தனம், உயிர் உள்ள வரை நம்பிக்கை உண்டு” என்று தனக்கு தானே முணுமுணுத்துக் கொண்டு வேக வேகமாய் அந்த சாலையை விட்டு நகர்ந்து நடைபாதையை அடைந்தாள் டியானா. அன்று இரவு தன் வாழ்வின் மிகவும் முட்டாள்தனமான முடிவில் இருந்து தன்னையே காப்பாற்றிக் கொண்டாள் டியானா. அவள் கால்கள் நடுங்க தொடங்கின தலை சுற்ற ஆரம்பித்தது – அந்த நொடியில் அந்த சிவப்பு மனிதன் ஓடி வந்து அவளை இறுக்கமாய் அனைத்துக் கொண்டான். அவன் கரங்களில் தன் கவலைகளை எல்லாம் மறந்து நிம்மதியாய் உறங்க தொடங்கினாள் டியானா.

டம் டிம் என விழும் பாத்திரங்களின் சத்தம் டியானாவை தூக்கத்தில் இருந்து எழுப்பி விட்டது. அவள் சுற்றி சுற்றி பார்த்தாள். படங்களில் வரும் பணக்கார வீடுகளில் ஒன்றை போல் இருந்தது அந்த இடம். முதல் நாள் இரவின் நிகழ்வுகள் அவள் நினைவிற்கு வந்தன. “எந்த தைரியத்தில் நீ முன் பின் தெரியாத ஒருவரின் கரங்களில் மயங்கி விழலாம்? உனக்கு நிச்சயம் பைத்தியம் தான் பிடித்திருக்கிறது” என்று தனக்கு தானே சொல்லிக் கொண்டாள். படுக்கைக்கு அருகில் இருந்த விளக்கைப் பாதுகாப்பிற்காக கையில் ஏந்திக் கொண்டு சத்தம் வந்த திசையை நோக்கி நடந்து சமையலறையை வந்தடைந்தாள்.

அங்கு பிங்க் நிற எப்ரோன் உடன் சமையல் என்னும் பெயரில் எதையோ கிண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தான் அந்த மனிதன். டியானாவை கண்டதும் அவன் கைகளில் இருந்ததை எல்லாம் கீழே வைத்து விட்டு அவளை இறுக்கமாய் அனைத்துக் கொண்டான். அப்போது தான் டியானா உணர்ந்தாள் – நேற்றிரவு அவளை காப்பாற்றிய அந்த சூப்பர் ஹீரோ கேப்ரியல் என்று. தன் கையில் இருந்த விளக்கை கீழே போட்டு விட்டு அவனை கட்டி அனைத்துக் கொண்டாள். “ஹேய், போதும் போதும் எனக்கு மூச்சு முட்டுகிறது” என்று அவள் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கூற “ஓ, என்னை மன்னித்து விடு” என்று தன் தலையை சொறிந்துக் கொண்டே கூறினான் கேப்ரியல்.

“சரி, என்ன செய்ய முயற்சிக்கிறாய்? சமையலறை ஏதோ போர்க்களம் போல் இருக்கிறது” என சிரித்தாள் டியானா. “வழக்கமாக நான் காலை உணவைத் தவிர்த்துவிட்டு மதிய மற்றும் இரவு உணவிற்கு ஆர்டர் செய்வேன். உனக்காக பான்கேக் செய்யலாம் என நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் எல்லாம் தலைகீழாகி விட்டது. பார், எல்லாமே கருகி கரி கட்டை போல் ஆகி விட்டது” என்று 5 வயது சிறுவனை போல் புலம்பி தள்ளினான். “தள்ளு, நான் பார்த்து கொள்கிறேன்” என்று சமையலறைக்குள் நுழைந்த டியானா 5 நிமிடத்தில் 2 தட்டுகளில் சுட சுட அருமையான பான்கேக் உடன் வெளியே வந்தாள். இருவரும் சாப்பிட அமர்ந்தனர்.

அத்தனை நாட்களாய் அவள் பூட்டு வைத்திருந்த கவலைகள் எல்லாம் வெளியே வர ஆரம்பித்தன. “நான் அந்த முட்டாள் ரால்பை மணந்திருக்க கூடாது. அது தான் நான் செய்த மிக பெரிய தவறு. கல்யாணம் ஆனா முதல் 2 ஆண்டுகளில் வாழ்க்கை நன்றாக தான் இருந்தது. மூன்றாம் ஆண்டின் தொடக்கத்தில் தான் என்னால் ஒருபோதும் தாயாக முடியாது, என் வயிற்றில் குழந்தையை சுமக்கும் பாக்கியம் எனக்கு இல்லை என்பதை டாக்டர்களின் மூலம் அறிந்து கொண்டோம். அன்றில் இருந்து தான் என் வாழ்க்கை நரகமாய் மாறியது. அவன் ஒவ்வொரு இரவும் பயங்கரமாய் குடித்து விட்டு நடு ராத்திரியில் தான் வீட்டிற்கு வந்தான். குடி போதையில் என்னை தகாத வார்த்தைகளால் ஏசினான். என்னை வேலைகாரி போல் நடத்தினான். அதை எல்லாம் நான் பொறுத்துக் கொண்டேன் – ஏன் தெரியுமா? இந்த ரால்ப், என் பெற்றோர்கள் எனக்காய் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த மாப்பிள்ளை. அவர்களின் சந்தோஷத்தை குலைக்க எனக்கு மனம் வர வில்லை. ஆனால் ஒரு நாள் இரவு அதீத குடிபோதையில் நள்ளிரவில் வேறு ஒரு பெண்ணுடன் வீட்டிற்குள் நுழைந்த அந்த ரால்ப், விவாகரத்து பத்திரங்களை என் முகத்தில் வீசி எறிந்தான். அவன் அருகில் இருந்த பெண் என்னை கன்னத்தில் அறைந்து – பெண்ணென்று கூறவே எனக்கு தகுதி இல்லை என்று ஏளனமாக சிரித்தாள். அப்போது முடிவெடுத்தேன், அதற்க்கு மேல் அந்த நரகத்தில் வாழ கூடாதென்று. அந்த விவாகரத்து பத்திரங்களில் கையெழுத்திட்டென், அந்த பெண்ணை பாளாரென்று அறைந்து விட்டு என் உடமைகளுடன் அங்கிருந்து வந்து விட்டேன். இந்த ஊரில் எனக்கு நண்பர்கள் உறவினர்கள் என யாரும் இல்லை, கையில் பணமும் இல்லை. முதல் சில இரவுகள் பாதிரியாரின் உதவியினால் ஆலயத்தில் இரவை கழித்தேன். வேலை தேடி அலைந்து திரிந்து கடைசியில் அந்த ஆடம்பர உணவகத்தில் வேலைக்கு சேர்ந்தேன். ஆனால் அங்கும் அவன் வந்துவிட்டான். நேற்றிரவு அந்த ரால்ப் வேண்டுமென்றே தன் மீது சூப்பை கொட்டி விட்டு நான் தான் காரணம் என்று குற்றம் சாட்டினான். அவனை எதிர்த்து என்னால் ஒன்றும் பேச முடியவில்லை – ஏனென்றால் அந்த வேலை எனக்கு அவ்வளவு முக்கியம். என் கண்ணீரை அடக்கி கொண்டு அமைதியாக தான் நின்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். அவன் என் மீது கை ஓங்கவே, இருந்த கொஞ்ச நம்பிக்கையும் கரைந்து போனது.  அதனால் தான் அங்கிருந்து ஓடி விட்டேன். இதற்க்கு மேல் உயிரோடு இருந்து என்ன பயன் என நினைத்து, என் வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக்கொள்ள முடிவு செய்தேன். அந்த ட்ரக்கின் முன் நின்றேன். அந்த நொடியில் தான் என்னை காப்பாற்ற துடித்த அந்த சிவப்பு மனிதனின் உருவம் என் கண்களில் தென்பட்டது. உயிர் உள்ளவரை நம்பிக்கை உண்டு என்று நான் உனக்கு கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் என் நினைவுக்கு வந்தன. அதனால் என் முடிவை மாற்றிக் கொண்டு வேக வேகமாய் அந்த நடை பாதையை அடைந்தேன். உன் கரங்களில் சரிந்தேன்” என்று கண்ணீர் கலந்த புன்னகையுடன் கூறினாள் டியானா.

“அன்று மட்டும் நான் என் இதயத்தின் கூக்குரலுக்கு செவி கொடுத்து அந்த திருமணத்தை தடுத்திருந்தால், என் நினைவுகளை உன்னிடம் கூறி இருந்தால், என் உள்ளுணர்வின் மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து, அந்த ரால்பை கந்த அந்த நொடியிலே அவனை ஓங்கி அறைந்திருந்தால் – நீ இவ்வளவு துன்பங்களை அனுபவித்திருக்க மாட்டாய். உன்னை காப்பாற்ற நான் தவறி விட்டேன். என்னை மன்னித்து விடு டியானா. இதற்க்கு மேல் உன்னை நான் பத்திரமாக பார்த்து கொள்கிறேன்” என்று எண்ணினான் கேப்ரியல்.   

டியானா தன் கண்ணீரை துடைத்துக் கொண்டு, என்னை பற்றி பேசியதெல்லாம் போதும். உன்னை பற்றி சொல்? இந்த இடம் ஏதோ பிரபலங்களின் வீடு போல் இருக்கிறது? பணத்துக்காக தவறான செயல்கள் செய்கிறாயா என்ன?” நக்கலாய் கேட்டாள் டியானா. “ஹேய், உனக்கு எவ்வளவு தைரியம்? என்னை பார்த்தல் அப்படிபட்டவன் போலவா தெரிகிறது?” இருவரும் சிரிக்க தொடங்கினர். “நீ விட்டு சென்ற பிறகு நான் மாடலிங்கில் என் முழு கவனத்தை செலுத்தினேன். நான் லண்டனில் அவ்வளவு பிரபலம் இல்லை என்றாலும், அமெரிக்காவின் மிக சிறந்த மடல்களில் ஒருவன் நான். எனக்கு லட்ச கணக்கில் ரசிகர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் தெரியுமா? இங்கு நடக்கவிருந்த விருது விழாவில் கலந்து கொள்ள தான் நான் லண்டனிற்கு வந்தேன். இது நான் சமீபத்தில் வாங்கிய விடுமுறை இல்லம். அமெரிக்காவில் இதை விட பெரிய பங்களா இருக்கிறது” என்று மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினான் கேப்ரியல். “அப்போ, நீ பெரிய பிரபலமாகி விட்டாய், பாருடா” என சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கூறினாள் டியானா.

கேப்ரியல் அவள் இரு கரங்களை பற்றிக் கொண்டு, “டியானா, நீ இங்கிருந்து கஷ்டபட்டதெல்லாம் போதும். என்னோடு மீண்டும் அமெரிக்கவிர்க்கே வந்து விடு. இங்கு நடந்ததை எல்லாம் கெட்ட கணவாய் மறந்து விட்டு வாழ்க்கையை புதிதாக தொடங்கலாம். தனிமரமாய் நான் நின்ற போது நீ என்னை அன்பாய் கவனித்துக் கொண்டாய். என் வாழ்வை வண்ணமயமாக்கினாய், அதே போல் நான் உன்னை கவனித்துக் கொள்ள எனக்கு ஒரு வாய்ப்பு கொடு” என்றான்.

டியானா மெதுவாய் தலையசைத்து “சரி“ என்று முனுமுனுத்தாள். கேப்ரியல் ஆண்டாண்டுகளாய் கேட்க காத்திருந்த வார்த்தைகள் அவை.            

கேப்ரியலும் டியானாவும் அமெரிக்காவிற்கு திரும்பினர். கேப்ரியல் “ஏஞ்சல்ஸ் மிஷன்” என்னும் அறக்கட்டளையைத் தொடங்கினான். தற்கொலைக்கு தங்கள் பெற்றோர்களை பறி கொடுத்த குழந்தைகளை தத்தெடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் அறக்கட்டளை அது, கேப்ரியல் 50 அறைகளை கொண்ட பிரமாண்ட பங்களா ஒன்றை கட்டினான். அதில் கேப்ரியல் டியானா மற்றும் அந்த குழந்தைகள் அனைவரும் ஒன்றாய் வாழ்ந்தனர். குழந்தைகள் டியானாவை அம்மா என்றும், கேப்ரியலை அப்பா என்றும் அழைத்தனர். அந்த இடமே ஒரு குட்டி சொர்க்கம் போல் எப்பொழுதும் சிரிப்பொலியில் நிறைந்திருந்தது.

கேப்ரியேலின் முதல் படமே மிகப் பெரிய வெற்றியை அடைந்தது, திரையுலகில் மிக முக்கிய பிரபலமாய் அவன் மாறி போனான், அதற்குள் 20 படங்களில் நடிக்க அவன் முன்குறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தான். தான் கண்டடைந்த அந்த ரகசியம் உலகின் எல்லா மூலைகளையும் சென்றடைய முயற்ச்சித்தான். “தற்கொலை என்றும் முடிவு அல்ல. நம்மை சுற்றி உள்ளவர்களை குற்ற உணர்ச்சியில் கொன்று புதைக்கும் சுயநல செயல். எனவே எக்காரணத்திர்க்ககாவும் அப்படி ஒரு முடிவை எடுத்து விடாதீர்கள் – உங்கள் உயிர் உள்ளவரை உங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைய நம்பிக்கை உண்டு” என்னும் செய்தி அவன் நடிக்கும் திரைப்படங்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் நிச்சயம் இடம் பெற வழி செய்தான்.

டியானாவும் கேப்ரியலும் பல தடைகளையும் போராட்டங்களையும் கடந்து தங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியை கண்டடைந்தனர்.

ANGEL’S MISSION – CHAPTER II

The world changed a lot in 6 years and so did their lives. Gabriel and Tiena chose different paths in their lives. After the wedding ceremony, they began to drift away. The calls and texts almost stopped at the end of first year and by the end of the second year, Gabriel had lost every contact with Tiena

Gabriel excelled in his modelling job. He climbed the social ladder step by step and soon became one of the top models in the American Fashion Industry. But still he couldn’t find the missing piece in his puzzle. He searched for the answer every day and night in the eyes of every stranger that he met but to no avail. He did a lot of research.

Once he had a conversation with a priest. The priest told him that,

“According to the rules of heaven, Sin is categorised into 5 levels.

Level 1 involves simple human defects – like lies, anger, curse words …….

Level 2 involves crimes involving wealth – like scams, pick pocketing, robbery……..

Level 3 includes crimes against fellow humans – like murder, rape, accidents under the influence of alcohol or drugs……..

Level 4 involves crimes against children – like pedophiles, child porn, kidnapping ……..

Level 5 – the highest level involves mass murder – like bomb blasts, genocide, war……… And somehow it also involves suicide.

The laws of heaven consider’s suicide as the highest form of sin”.

Gabriel was just a mere messenger in heaven and this news shocked him. “Why? It doesn’t make sense” He asked the priest. But there was no reply. “Maybe this is what I need to find – the reason behind such a law” Gabriel thought.

That night, Gabriel was dressed in his finest attire. Wrapped in a blood red suit that glittered under the light. Fallen Angel was his nickname in the Fashion industry because he glowed like an angel under the spot light every single time. Gabriel hopped into his limo and started his journey. This was his first time in London. He was one his way to the BAFTA Academy Awards. He has been nominated under the rising star category for his first movie and there was a high possibility that he could bag it tonight.

The limo slowly drove across the rich part of the city. The streets glowing with all bright lights and funky ad signs. There were grandeur doors that opened into lavish restaurants. Gabriel hated such places. Where the rich are treated like Gods and the poor were seen as trash. But one sign board caught his eyes that night. Without even knowing, His body dragged him out of his limo and soon he stepped into its gates.

The restaurant was designed to instill a sense of royalty to every soul that sets foot in its realm. The place was draped in shades of Gold and Red from head to toe. The intricate paintings on the roof and the sparkling marbles that adorned its floor proved him once again that the life of rich is indeed different. Though Gabriel was rich, he made sure to never become one of them. The place was uniquely spaced to ensure privacy for its guests. The waiter guided him to a single seater not far away from the entrance. He glanced through those dishes in the menu, which had names like tongue twisters and prices that could definitely make an ordinary man faint. He ordered an espresso and a cheese cake. The waiter soon disappeared into who knows where.

Gabriel picked up his phone and scrolled through his Instagram feed. There were videos of his fans cheering for him and shouting that the award will be definitely his. He smiled like a mad man to see their love. The sound of loud commotions from almost the other end of the restaurant made him stop scrolling. He heard a man shouting at the top of his lungs – as if he was about the kill the woman in front of him. She seemed like a worker because she was dressed in the same clothes as the waiter. Soon the angry man slapped the woman. With brimming tears, she ran towards the restaurant gates.

When the woman was about 2 steps away, Gabriel felt a sense of familiarity in those teary eyes.

The same eyes that were once filled with hope and joy

The eyes that gave him the strength to survive

The eyes that held the answers to all his thoughts

The eyes of his guardian angel

The eyes of Tiena.

He couldn’t believe that the woman in front of him immersed in tears was indeed Tiena. Before he could grasp himself and come back to his senses, she had already rushed out of the gates. Gabriel without wasting another moment dropped his phone and sprinted towards her.

He almost reached the restaurant gates and what he saw was beyond what his simple mind could grasp. Tiena stood there in the middle of the street with tears still rolling down. A huge truck approached her at lightening-speed.

Though she could see the beast rushing towards her

She stood still – not moving an inch

As if her feet were glued to the concrete 

As if it was what she really wants

As if she has decided to put an end to her broken life.

Gabriel could feel a part of his soul dying at this sight. He felt his heart breaking into million pieces and his soul breaking into billion shreds. He clenched his heart tightly. He lifted his eyes to the sky and begged God to do something.

At that moment, a miracle began. Time stood still. Tiena, the rushing truck and the little drops of rain that were falling on that night – stood still in mid air.

A cloud of fire engulfed Gabriel out of nowhere and then he found himself back. Back to the day when it all started. He was again standing on that little podium surrounded by legions of angels who were now in utter silent and curious to hear his words. Though it was almost 7 years for him in the human realms, it was only 7 minutes in heaven. It was still jubilee day and the congregation were still waiting for his answers.

Gabriel stood on that little podium, with thousands of eyes staring into his soul. But none of them mattered at that moment. He stood there with tears running endlessly, still clutching to his heart. After a few failures of forcing a voice out of his lumped throat, Gabriel began to speak.

“God did you saw that? Tiena is dying! She is trying to end her life. And I couldn’t do anything When I saw her standing in that street, a part of my soul died. And if something really happens to her. I won’t be able to forgive myself. I won’t be able to breathe. I won’t be able to live. She is the one who taught me that as long as we are alive there is hope. I don’t know what broke her soul and made her choose something like this. But I must save her. Do something God! Please do something! please save her!” Gabriel cried.

God gently smiled at him at said “Finally, my little one has found the answer he seeked” There were curious whispers all around among the angels.

Soon God began to speak, “As long as humans are alive there is hope to reach their happiness. But they fail to understand – the aftermath of their selfish act -The consequence of their choices on their loved ones. Whenever they choose to kill themselves, without even knowing they kill the souls of their loved ones. The people who are left behind live in constant guilt. Maybe, just maybe if I had called him that day, he wouldn’t have done that. If I had been a little more patient, my girl would be still alive. If we had loved him a little more, he would be still alive – the people around them blame themselves over and over until the guilt consumes their smile. Until a part of their soul dies. Suicide is not just choosing their end – but killing the people who loved them and forcing them to live a life filled with guilt and grief. It’s a mass murder” God said.

By then the entire congregation was engulfed in silence. There were silent tears in a few faces. By now Gabriel was weeping like a 5 year old boy. The words he heard made him shiver with fear. And he was more determined to save Tiena. God turned towards him and said “since you have completed your mission, I have a reward for you, my little angel. You can go back to earth. I’m granting you 50 human years. Now go and save my little girl Tiena. This answer that you discovered might save many human lives. So do your best to spread this little secret to each and every human. God said with smile. Soon a cloud of fire engulfed him and he was back. Back to the dreaded moment. Time began to run again and Gabriel ran with all his might towards Tiena.

Blurry eyed Tiena stood there in the center of the road. Life became unbearable in those 6 years and today’s events destroyed the little hope that had sustained all these years.

She decided to end her life and that’s why she stood there – in the middle of the street on that rainy night. The huge truck felt like a beast under the droplets of rain. And the beast was hurrying towards her to claim her soul. With seconds that felt like hours Tiena looked around to take one last glance at the world she was going to leave in a few seconds. She saw a figure running towards her as if trying to save her. The man glowed under the moonlight like ruby in his red attire. He ran towards her with all his might, as if she meant the world to him. Suddenly her trail of thoughts went back to her days in America. When she had a perfect job and there was Gabriel who did all sorts of crazy things to make her laugh. And her mom and dad who loved her with all their hearts. “Maybe this is not right. Maybe I should go back. As long as I live there is hope” she mumbled to herself. She stepped out of the streets and made her way safely into the side walk. She indeed saved herself from the most stupid decision of her life. She stood there in the side walk drenched in rain and gasping for air. Her legs were trembling and her head went dizzy. Just then the man in red suit came rushing towards her and engulfed her in the warmest hug she ever had. It felt like the safest place on earth. She smiled and closed her eyes to sleep peacefully after a very long time.

Tiena opened her eyes to sound of clattering pots. She was gently wrapped under layers of cozy sheets. It was a rich condo the one where celebrities live. Soon last nights events came rushing down. “You weren’t thinking straight last night. How could you sleep in the arms of a stranger” she asked herself. She grabbed the lamp that stood near the bed for defence and stumbled her way towards the kitchen which seemed to be the source of the noise.

There stood a man in pink aprons trying his best not to set the kitchen on fire. The man noticed Tiena. He dropped whatever he was holding and hugged her tight. That’s when she realized that his saviour from last night was indeed Gabriel. She smiled widely knowing that she is in the right place afterall. “Ya, I’m going to die, you’re choking me you idiot” she said while laughing and dropped the lamp. Gabriel broke the hug while scratching his head, “Ha I forgot! Sorry Tiena” He said. She then turned towards the kitchen and said “What are trying to do?”. “Well, usually I would skip breakfast and order takeouts for lunch and dinner. Since it’s too early for takeouts. I thought I could cook you pancakes. But I suck. Look, all the pancakes are burnt. They look like trash” He rambled like a little boy. “Alright, let me cook” Tiena said. Soon she barged into the messed up kitchen and like a magician came out with 2 plates of wonderful pancakes. They both sat in the dining room.

Tiena could sense the million thoughts that were torturing Gabriel about last night – But the gentleman he was, he never spoke a word. So she decided to break the silence, “You know what I never should have married Ralph. He was such a jerk. The first 2 years were good. Atleast he treated me as a friend those days. But when we came to know that my womb can never carry a child, that I could never become a mother, he showed his true colours. He came back home during midnights while being heavily drunk. He treated me like a slave and killed me with his words every night. But I continued to live with him because Ralph was my parent’s choice. They arranged our marriage and I can’t let them fail. But it all went crumbling down when one night he came back home late night along with a girl. He threw the divorce papers at my face and told me that he was sick of seeing my face. The woman in tow slapped my face and said that I was worthless to be even called as a woman. I slapped her back signed those bloody divorce papers and Walked out of that place and never went back. I took shelter in the church for a few days. Everybody here refused to hire me stating that I’m 6 years in the past. So, After months of sleepless nights, I finally found a job in that lavish restaurant and rented a small home for myself. Things were starting to get better. But that night I saw Ralph again. He purposely spilled soup on his pants, blamed me and even slapped me. I couldn’t say a word because that job meant everything to me. So, I ran away. I decided to put an end to all these sufferings and stood in front of that truck knowingly. But then I saw you, running towards me to save my life. That moment I remembered that as long as I live there is hope. So I stepped back into the sidewalk and collapsed in your arms” She said laughing. But the tears in her eyes gave out the grief she kept hidden all these years.

“If I had just listened to my heart, If I had just begged her to runaway from that wedding, If I had just trusted myself and punched that bloody Ralph that day –  maybe I could have saved her from these years of sufferings” Gabriel thought. Immense guilt and anger filled his heart upon hearing her words.

She wiped her tears and said “So tell me, what happened to you. Mr. Handsome face? This place looks rich. You’re not into some kind of dirty business, are you?” she laughed.

“oooo Tiena, How dare you say that?” he spatted her shoulders with his spoon.

“Well, after you left, I picked up my modelling career. I may not be that much known in London, but I’m quite famous back home in America. I came to London to attend an award function my first film. This is my vacation home in London that I recently bought. I have another villa back home” He said.

“Wooow! So, Mr.handsome is a rich celebrity huh” She said with smile like a proud mother.

Gabriel held her hands and said “you know what? come with me back to home. We can restart our lives. Just the way it was. This time. Let me take care of you ”.

She nodded with brimming eyes and mumbled out a faint “yes”. The exact words Gabriel waited for all these years.

Gabriel and Tiena went back to America. Gabriel started the “Angel’s Mission” foundation which took in children who lost their parents to suicide attempts. Gabriel built a huge villa with 50 rooms so that he, Tiena and all those children could live together. The children called Tiena as mom and Gabriel as dad and the villa itself felt like a little paradise with the sounds of giggles laughter and smile filling the air.

Gabriel was a huge success in the film industry and he had almost 20 films up his sleeve. He was in huge demand in the film industry, He took it up as his mission to spread the secret he found in the human realm. “Suicide is a selfish act – without even knowing you are killing the people around you and forcing them into lifetime of darkness grief and guilt. Never ever think about ending your life because as long as you live there is hope”. He made sure that in all his movies this message made a part. He made sure that it reached each and every corner of the world.

Tiena and Gabriel reached their dream, their paradise, their happily ever after.

அந்த அற்புத நாளில் தேவதூதர்களின் மகா சபை சொர்கத்தின் நடுவில் ஒன்றுகூடியது – 70 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை கொண்டாடப்படும் ஜூபிலி திருவிழா நாள் அது. சிரிப்பும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் காற்றை நிரப்பி இருந்தன. அது கொண்டாட்டத்தின் நாள். தேவதூதர்கள் தங்கள் கடமைகளை மறந்து குதுகலிக்க கூடிய நாள்.

வன படையணியைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு தேவதை தனது இருக்கையிலிருந்து எழுந்து நின்று “ஆம், அவர் சொல்வதெல்லாம் சரி தான். இந்த மனிதர்கள் தங்கள் பேராசைகாக காடுகளை கட்டுகடங்காமல் அழிக்கிறார்கள். உலகத்தின் ரகசியங்களை ஆராய்ந்து என்ன பயன் – காடுகள் அழிந்து விட்டால் ஆக்ஸிஜன் இன்றி மனித இனமே அழிந்து விடும் என்பதை கூட உணர முடியாத முட்டாள்கள் இந்த மனிதர்கள்” என்று கடுங்கோபத்துடன் அவள் முறையிட்டால். அவளுடைய கூற்றுக்கு ஒத்ததாக முழு சபையும் தலையை அசைத்தது.

விரைவில் பேரழிவு படையணியின் தலைவர் தேவதை எழுந்து நின்று “நீங்கள் சொல்வது சரிதான். நிலைமை இன்னும் மோசமடைவதற்குள் நாம் அவர்களை தடுத்து நிறுத்த வேண்டும். ஆனால் நீங்கள் எதை பற்றியும் கவலை பட தேவையில்லை. இப்போது, ​​எங்கள் படையணியினர் ஒரு ரகசிய ஆயுதத்தை தயாரித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். அந்த ஆயுதம் பூமியில் பரவ ஆரம்பித்தால் போதும், இந்த மனிதர்களால் குறைந்தது 1 வருடத்திற்கு வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியே வர முடியாது. அவர்களே உயிர்க்கு பயந்து தொழிற்சாலைகள், வாகனங்கள் என ஒன்று விடாமல் எல்லாவற்றையும் இழுத்து மூடி விடுவார்கள். இயற்கை அன்னை தன்னை சீர்படுத்திக் கொள்ள ஒரு வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும்” என்று பெருமித புன்னகையுடன் கூறினார். முழு சபையும் மகிழ்ச்சியில் நிரம்பியது – அந்த முட்டாள்களிடமிருந்து பூமியைக் காப்பாற்ற அவர்களுக்கு கிடைத்த ஒரு அறிய வாய்ப்பு.

சொர்கத்தின் படைகளிலேயே மனித படை தான் மிகவும் பாவப்பட்ட படை.  அவர்கள் சக தேவதூதர்களால் ஏளனமாக பார்க்கப்பட்டனர்.  மேலும் அவர்கள் மனிதர்களுடன் இணைந்து பணியாற்ற வேண்டியிருந்தது – மனித இனம் தான் உயிர்களிலேயே மிகவும் கணிக்க முடியாத இனம். ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனும் வித்தியாசமானவன். ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனும் தனக்கே உரிய எண்ணங்களும் கவலைகளும் புரிந்த கொள்ள முடியாத மர்மங்களுடனும் வளம் வந்தனர். இவை அனைத்தும் அவர்கள் வேலையை இன்னும் கடினமாக்கியது.

மனித படையிலிருந்து ஆர்வமுள்ள ஒரு இளம் தேவதை தனது இருக்கையிலிருந்து பறந்து வந்து அந்த சிறு மேடையில் கால்களை பதித்தது. அவனைப் பார்த்ததும் சபை முழுதும் அமைதியில் ஆழ்ந்தது. இளம் தேவதை தனது குரலை உயர்த்தி பேசத் தொடங்கியது “அன்பு கடவுளே, கடந்த பல ஆண்டுகளாக நான் மனிதர்களுடன் பணிபுரிந்து வருகிறேன். ஆனால் இந்த ஒரு கேள்விக்கான பதிலை மட்டும் என்னால் கண்டுபிடிக்கவே முடியவில்லை. தற்கொலை செய்வதில் என்ன தவறு? அதை ஏன் நீங்கள் பாவமாக கருதுகிறீர்கள்? யதார்த்தத்திலிருந்து தப்பிக்க இது எளிதான வழி அல்லவா? முழு வாழ்க்கையையும் இருட்டில் கழிப்பதை விட, அதிலிருந்து தப்பி ஓடுவது நல்ல முடிவு அல்லவா?” அவன் 5 வயது குறுநடை போடும் குழந்தையைப் போன்ற பிரகாசமான கண்களுடன் கேட்டான். தேவதூதர்களிடையே சலசலப்புகளும் கிசுகிசுக்களும் ஒலித்தது. அவனுக்கு என்ன பைத்தியம் பிடித்து விட்டதா – தேவதூதர்கள் தங்களுக்குள் கிசுகிசுத்தனர்.

அந்த முழு நிலவின் ஒளியில் அந்த எண்ணங்கள் அனைத்தும் அவனது மனதில் வெள்ளம் போல் புகுந்தன. அந்த இளம் தேவதை நகரத்தின் அந்த தனிமையான பகுதியில் ரயில் தடங்களுக்கு அருகில் நின்றுக்கொண்டிருந்தான். அவன் மனிதனாக மாறி கிட்டத்தட்ட 3 நாட்கள் ஆகி விட்டன. அந்த 3 நாட்களில் அவன் வாழ்க்கை நரகமாய் தோன்றியது. மனிதர்களின் உலகத்தை பற்றிய அவனது அறிவு கொஞ்சம் தான். பணம் சம்பாதிக்க ஒரு வழியைக் அவனால் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை. அதனால் 3 நாட்களாக உணவின்றி பட்டினி கிடந்தான். தெரு ஓரங்களில் கிடைத்த தண்ணீரை மட்டும் குடித்து வந்தான். இரவில் தன் கண்ணில் பட்ட இடங்களில் படுத்துக் கொண்டான். “நான் மிக பெரிய முட்டாள். நான் ஏன் இப்படி ஒரு கேள்வியைக் கேட்டேன். அன்று கடவுள் புன்னகைத்தாலும், அவர் நிச்சயம் என் மேல் மிகவும் கோபமாக தான் இருக்கிறார். இல்லையென்றால் அவர் என்னை ஏன் நரகத்தை விட கொடூரமான இந்த இடத்திற்கு அனுப்ப போகிறார்”என்று பெருமூச்சு விட்டான். உணவு இன்றி பைத்தியம் போல் சுற்றி வந்த அவனுக்கு முட்டாள்தனமான ஒரு யோசனை தோன்றியது. “பாவத்தால் கறைபடாத மனித ஆத்மாக்கள் மரணத்திற்குப் பிறகு சொர்க்கத்தை அடையும். நான் இந்த இடத்தில் கால் பதித்த நொடியில் இருந்து ஒரு பாவமும் செய்யவில்லை. எனவே, நான் இறந்தால், என் ஆன்மா நிச்சயம் சொர்க்கத்திற்குச் செல்லும். சொர்கத்தை அடைந்ததும் நான் கடவுளிடம் மன்னிப்பு கேட்டு என்னை மறுபடியும் துதனாக மற்றும் படி கெஞ்ச போகிறேன்” என தனக்குளே சொல்லிக் கொண்டான்.

அந்த அற்புத நிலவொளியில் ரயில் பாதையின் நடுவில் நின்றுக் கொண்டு தன் கண்களை இறுக்கமாய் மூடிக் கொண்டான். தூரத்தில் ஒலித்த ரயிலின் ஓசை வேகமாய் அவனை நெருங்கியது. “இது முட்டாள்தனம் தான், ஆனால் இதுதான் ஒரே வழி” என்று அவர் தன்னைத்தானே தைரியம் சொல்லிக்கொண்டான். ரயில் மின்னல் வேகத்தில் அவனை நெருங்கியது. என்ன நடக்கிறது என அவன் உணர்வதற்குள் ஒரு ஜோடி கைகள் அவனை விரைவாக தடங்களிலிருந்து வெளியே இழுத்தது. அவனிடம் மிஞ்சி இருந்த சிறிது பெலனும் கரைந்து போகவே அந்த அந்நிய கைகளில் மயங்கி விழுந்தான் அந்த இளம் தேவதூதன்.

மறுநாள் காலையில், சூரிய ஒளி அவனை தட்டி எழுப்ப, தன் கண்களை கசக்கிக் கொண்டே சுற்றி சுற்றி பார்த்தான். தான் முன் பின் கண்டிராத ஒரு படுக்கை அறையில் இருப்பதை உணர்ந்தான். வெளிர் வண்ணங்கள் சுவர்களை அலங்கரிக்க அந்த நான்கு சுவர்கள் உலகின் மிகவும் பாதுகாப்பான இடம் போல் தோன்றியது. காற்றில் நகர்ந்து வந்த அறுசுவை உணவின் வாசனையை மோப்பம் பிடித்துக் கொண்டே சமையலறைக்குள் நுழைந்தான்.

அங்கு ஒரு இளம் பெண் சந்தோஷமாய் பாடிக் கொண்டே சமைத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டான். சாக்லேட் வண்ண மேனியும், பாப் போன்ற கூந்தலுடன் சற்று குள்ளமாய் அவள் காட்சி அளித்தாள். அந்த பெண் அவனை இருக்கையில் அமர செய்து சுட சுட அற்புதமான உணவை பரிமாறினாள். உணவை கண்ட நொடியில் அவன் கவலைகள் எல்லாம் எங்கோ மறைந்து போயின. உணவையே பார்த்திராத பூனையையை போல் வேக வேகமாய் அனைத்தையும் தன் வாய்க்குள் திணித்தான்.

அவள் மெதுவாக அவனைப் பார்த்து புன்னகைத்து, “ஹலோ, என் பெயர் டியானா, இது என் வீடு தான். நேற்றிரவு அந்த ரயில் தடங்களின் நடுவில் வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொள்ள எண்ணி நீ நின்றுக் கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டேன். நான் தான் உன்னை காப்பாற்றினேன். உடனே நீ மயங்கி விழுந்து விட்டாய். உன்னை நான் தான் இங்கு கஷ்டப்பட்டு தூக்கிக் கொண்டு வந்தேன். நீ எவ்வளவு வெய்ட்டாக இருக்கிறாய் தெரியுமா” எனக் கூறி சிரித்தாள். “இப்போது உன்னைப் பற்றி சொல். உன் பெயர் என்ன?” அவள் ஆர்வமாய் வினவினாள்.

தான் ஒரு தேவதூதன் எனக் கூறினால் நிச்சயம் தனக்கு பைத்தியம் பிடித்திருக்கிறது என நினைத்து எதாவது ஒரு பைத்தியக்கார ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் நிச்சயமாக அடைத்து விடுவார்கள் என அவன் தனக்குளே கூறி கொண்டான். உண்மையை சற்று திரித்துக் கூற முடிவு செய்தான். “நீங்கள் என்னை கேப்ரியல் என்று அழைக்கலாம் (இயேசுவின் வருகையை அறிவிக்க ஒரு முறை பூமிக்கு வந்தபோது மக்கள் அவனுடைய தலைமை தூதனை கேப்ரியல் என்று தான் அழைத்தனர்). என் அப்பா என்னை வீட்டை விட்டு துரத்திவிட்டார். எனக்கு வேலை இல்லை. என்னிடம் உணவுக்கு பணம் கூட இல்லை. எனவே, இந்த வாழ்க்கையில் இருந்து தப்பிப்பதற்கு என் வாழ்க்கையை முடித்துக் கொள்வதே சிறந்த வழி என்று நான் நினைத்தேன் ”என்று அவன் கூறினான்.

தனக்கு முன் அமர்ந்திருந்த இந்த அந்நியனை ஏற இறங்க பார்வையிட்டாள் டியானா. அவன் தனது 20 களின் ஆரம்பத்தில் இருந்த ஒரு இளைஞன். தேவதூதனை போன்ற பிரகாசமான அவன் முகம் – கந்தை துணி போல் அங்கும் இங்கும் கிழிந்திருந்த அவன் உடைக்கு சற்றும் பொருந்தாததாய் காட்சியளித்தது.

முன் பின் தெரியாத ஒரு மனிதனை தன் வீட்டற்கு அழைத்து வந்து அவனுக்கு உணவளிப்பது மற்றவர்களுக்கு முட்டாள் தனமாக தோன்றலாம். உலகத்தால் கறைபடாத 5 வயது குழந்தையை போன்ற களங்கமில்லாத அவன் கண்கள் தான் அன்றிரவு அவனை காப்பாற்றும் படி டியானவை தூண்டியது. “உனக்கு என்ன பைத்தியம் பிடித்திருக்கிறதா? அவன் சரியான வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும் போது நிச்சயம் உன்னை கொன்று விட்டு இங்கு இருப்பதை திருடி சென்று விடுவான்” என அவள் மூளை அவளை எச்சரித்தது. ஆனால் அதையெல்லாம் அவள் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை.

“எல்லாரும் எப்படி இருக்கீங்க?” தியானா புன்னகையுடன் கேட்டாள். அந்த சிறிய குழுவில் இருந்த ஒவ்வொருவரும் டியானாவை அன்பான புன்னகையுடன் வரவேற்றனர். “இது கேப்ரியல், என் நண்பன்” அவள் தனக்கு அருகில் இருந்த இளைஞனை அறிமுகப்படுத்தினாள். குழுவில் ஒரு நடுத்தர வயது பெண்மணி கேப்ரியலின் தோள்களில் தட்டி கொடுத்து, “ஹலோ கேப்ரியல்,  எப்படி இருக்கிறாய்? தேவாலயத்திற்கு வருவது இது தான் முதல் முறை போல? ” என புன்னகையுடன் வினவினாள். அவர்கள் பேசிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போதே ஒரு சிறுமி எங்கிருந்தும் ஓடி வந்து கேப்ரியல் மீது மோதினாள். டியானா கீழே குனிந்து அந்த சிறுமியை கட்டி அணைத்தாள். டியானா தன் மெல்லிய புன்னகையுடன் “ஏய் செல்ல குட்டி, எங்கே ஓடுகிறாய்?”. சிறுமியிடமிருந்து எந்த பதிலும் இல்லை. அந்தச் சிறுமியின் வாயில் இருந்து ஒழுகிய எச்சிலை டியானா துடைத்து விட்டால். ஆனாலும் அந்த சிறுமியிடம் இருந்து எந்த பதிலும் தென்படவில்லை. அவள் சற்று வித்தியாசமாய் காட்சியளித்தாள். அவள் மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை டியானாவின் முகத்தை பார்த்துவிட்டு அங்கிருந்து ஓடி விட்டாள். பின்னர் அந்த சிறிய குழுவில் இருந்த ஒரு முதியவர் கேப்ரியலைப் பார்த்து “ஏய் தம்பி, நீ மிகவும் அழகாக இருக்கிறாய். ஆனால் உன் வயதில் நான் உன்னை விட அழகாக இருந்தேன் தெரியுமா. என் அழகு முகத்தை காணவே எப்போதும் பெண்களின் கூட்டம் என் வீட்டு வாசலில் காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் தெரியுமா” என்று அவர் கூற அந்த சிறிய குழு சிரிப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தது. உரையாடல்கள் நீண்ட நேரம் தொடர்ந்தன. டியானாவும் கேப்ரியலும் அங்கிருந்து விடைப்பெற்றுக் கொண்டு வீட்டை நோக்கி நகர்ந்தனர்.

திரும்பி செல்லும் பயணம் – இருவரும் அமைதியில் மூழ்கி இருந்தனர். சிறிது நேரத்திற்கு பின் டியானா பேச தொடங்கினாள். “நாம் இன்று சந்தித்த மக்களைப் பற்றி நீ என்ன நினைக்கிறாய்?” என கேள்வி எழுப்பினாள். “எல்லாரும் மிகவும் சந்தோஷமாய் ஒரு கவலையுமின்றி தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை வாழ்கிறார்கள். அவர்களை பார்த்தல் கொஞ்சம் பொறாமையாக இருக்கிறது” என்று கேப்ரியல் பதிலளித்தான்,

“ஆனால் உண்மையில் அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கை எப்போதும் இப்படி இருந்ததில்லை. ஒரு காலத்தில் அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கை தலைகீழாக இருந்தது. துயரங்கள் நிறைந்த இருண்ட பாதைகளை அவர்கள் கடக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. உன்னிடம் பேசிய அந்த நடுத்தர வயது பெண்மணி தான் அந்த சிறுமி லிசியின் தாய். லிசி ஒரு ஆட்டிஸ்டிக் குழந்தை. லிசிக்கு  2 வயது இருக்கும் போது அவள் தந்தை ஒரு விபத்தில் மரணம் அடைந்தார். அந்த செய்தியை கேட்டதும் அவர்கள் இருவர் வாழ்வும் இருளில் மூழ்கியது. 3 வேலை உணவிற்கு கூட வழி இல்லை. லிசியை கவனித்துக் கொண்டே வேலை செய்வது முடியாத காரியமாய் தோன்றியது. எல்லா கதவுகளும் அடைக்கப்பட்ட நிலைமை. வாழ்க்கை போர்களமாய் மாறி போனது. பல இரவுகளில் தற்கொலை தான் ஒரே வழி என்று கூட தோன்றியது. ஆனால் அத்தகைய கடினமான காலங்களிலும் அவர்கள் கடவுள் மீதிருந்த தங்கள் நம்பிக்கையை விடாமல் பற்றிக் கொண்டனர். நிச்சயம் ஒரு நாள் அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கை மாறும் என அவர்கள் முழு மனதுடன் நம்பினார்கள். கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒரு வருடம் கழித்து எங்கள் தேவாலயத்தில் உள்ள ஒரு பணக்காரர் லிசிக்கு ஸ்பான்சர் செய்ய முன்வந்தார், மேலும் லிசியின் அம்மாவுக்கு தனது நிறுவனத்திலேயே ஒரு வேலையை வழங்கினார். இப்போது அவர்களை பார். நட்சத்திரங்களை விட பிரகாசமாய் அவர்கள் ஜொலிக்கிறார்கள்.

உன்னை கிண்டல் செய்த அந்த முதியவர் -அவர் என் அம்மாவின் நண்பர். ஏறக்குறைய 20 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு அவர் எங்கள் ஊரிலேயே மிகவும் செல்வ செழிப்பான ஒரு நிறுவனத்தை நடத்தி வந்தார். ஆனால் அவரது சிறந்த நண்பர்களாக இருந்த அவரது கூட்டாளிகள் அவருக்கு துரோகம் செய்தனர். வஞ்சகமாய் அவர் சொத்துக்கள் அனைத்தையும் அபகரித்துக் கொண்டு அவரை அவர் நிறுவனத்தில் இருந்தே துரத்தி விட்டனர். அந்த நிலையில் அவரது மனைவி அவரை விவாகரத்து செய்து விட்டு அவர் மகளையும் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு வேறு நாட்டிற்கு சென்று விட்டாள். பல நாட்கள்  அவர் என்ன செய்வதென்றே தெரியாமல் தேவாலய வாசல்களில் சுருண்டு கிடப்பர். வீடு வாசல் குடும்பம் தொழில் என அனைத்தையும் இழந்து பைத்தியக்காரனை போல் சுற்றி வந்தார். இதற்க்கு மேல் உயிரோடு இருந்து என்ன பயன் என்று பல நாட்கள் அவர் நினைத்ததுண்டு. ஆனால் தன் திறமையின் மேல் அவர் வைத்திருந்த நம்பிக்கை அவர் வாழ்க்கையையே மாற்றியது. கொஞ்ச நாட்களில் அவர் புதிதாக மற்றொரு தொழிலைத் தொடங்கினார். அவர் நிறுவனம் பெரும் வெற்றியை அடைந்தது. தான் இழந்த செல்வத்தின் மதிப்பில் இரு மடங்கை ஒரு வருடத்திலேயே சம்பாதித்தார். அவர் தான் நான் சொன்ன லிசியின் ஸ்பான்சர். தன்னால் முடித்த வரை மற்றவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்கிறார்.  

அந்த சிறிய குழுவில் உள்ள ஒவ்வொரு மனிதருக்கும் ஒரு கதை உண்டு.

அவர்களின் உலகம் கார் இருளாய் காட்சியளித்த போதும்

அவர்களின் மகிழ்ச்சிகள் அனைத்தும் கானலாய் மறைந்த போதும்

அவர்களின் புன்னகை கூட கண்ணீரில் நனைந்த போதும்

அவர்கள் ஒன்றை மட்டும் விடாமல் பற்றி கொண்டனர்

அவர்களின் உயிர் இருக்கும் வரை நம்பிக்கை இருக்கிறது

அவர்களின் சுவாசம் உள்ள வரை மகிழ்ச்சிக்கான வாய்ப்பு இருக்கிறது

அவர்களின் கண்களில் ஒளி உள்ள வரை பிரகாச வாழ்க்கைக்கான கதவு அவர்களுக்காய் காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது

அவர்களின் இதய துடிப்பு உள்ள வரை தங்கள் கனவுகளை நிஜமாக்க நேரம் இருக்கிறது

எனவே தயவுசெய்து நீ தற்கொலை தான் நல்ல முடிவு என்று எண்ணாதே . நீ உயிருடன் இருக்கும் வரை உன்னால் நிச்சயம் உன் மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைய முடியும்” என்று டியானா கூறினாள். அந்த கணத்தில் சிறு கண்ணீர் துளிகள் அவள் கன்னங்களை அலங்கரித்தது.

கேப்ரியல் அவள் வார்த்தைகளுக்கு தலையசைத்தான். வேறு ஏதும் பதில் கூறவில்லை. மௌனம் தான் விடையாக கிடைத்தது.

டியானா கேப்ரியலை குழந்தையை போல் கவனித்துக்கொண்டாள் – அவனுக்காக தன் விருந்தினர் அறையை தயார் செய்தாள், அற்புதமான இரவு உணவை சமைத்து பரிமாறினாள். அன்று இரவு கேப்ரியல் வீட்டின் மாடிக்கு சென்றான். தன் கண்களை வானத்தை நோக்கி உயர்த்தி பேச ஆரம்பித்தான். “அன்பு கடவுளே, எனது வார்த்தைகளை உங்களிடம் கொண்டு செல்ல என் அருகில் எதாவது ஒரு தூதன் இருக்கிறனா என்று கூட எனக்கு தெரிய வில்லை. ஆனால் இந்த செய்தி உங்களை அடையும் என நான் நிச்சயம் நம்புகிறேன். இன்று  நான் வித்தியாசமான பல மனிதர்களை சந்தித்தேன். அவர்களின் கதைகளைக் அறிந்து கொண்டேன். நான் இதுவரை கேட்டிராத ஒரு கருத்தை அவர்கள் எனக்கு கற்று தந்தனர்.

வாழ்க்கையை போர்களமாய் மாறி போனாலும்

கனவுகள் எல்லாம் சுக்கு நூறாய் நொறுங்கினாலும்

நம்பிக்கையின் கதவுகள் அடைத்துக் கொண்டாலும்

வாழ்வதற்க்கான காரணங்கள் அனைத்தும் கருகி போனாலும்

மரணம் ஒன்று தான் விடியல் என தோன்றும் அந்த ஒரு நொடியில்

மனிதன் தன் மிஞ்சிய தைரியத்தை சேகரித்துக் கொண்டு

எஞ்சிய பெலனை ஒன்றாய் திரட்டிக் கொண்டு

கொஞ்சம் நம்பிக்கையை சேர்த்துக் கொண்டு

வாழ்கையின் போர்களத்தில் அந்த ஒரு நொடியை

போராடி வெற்றிக் கொண்டால்

நாளையின் விடியலை காண ஒரே ஒரு காரணத்தை

அவன் கண்டடைந்தால்

அவன் வாழ்வு நிச்சயம் வண்ணமயமாகும்

அவன் இருள் ஒளியாய் பிரகாசிக்கும்

அவன் ஆசைகள் நிச்சயம் நிறைவேறும்

அவன் கனவுகள் நிஜமாய் மாறிபோகும்

அவன் வாழ்வு சொர்க்கமாய் மாறும்

அவர்கள் உயிர் உள்ள வரை மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைவதர்க்கான நம்பிக்கை இருக்கிறது.

டியானா தனக்கு கற்று தந்த அந்த வார்த்தைகளை அவன் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் கூறினான். யாருக்கு தெரியும் அவன் தேடலின் பதில் இதுவாக கூட இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் அவன் ஆழ்மனதில் ஏதோ ஒரு வெறுமை உணர்வு. முக்கியமான ஒன்றை தொலைத்ததை போன்ற சோகம். தனது தேடலின் முக்கிய பகுதியை இன்னும் அவன் அடையவில்லை என்று அவன் மனம் கூறியது, சுற்றி சுற்றி பார்த்தான். எதாவது நடக்கிறதா? தான் திரும்பி செல்வதற்க்கான அறிகுறி ஏதேனும் தென்படுகிறதா? என தேடி தேடி பார்த்தான் கேப்ரியல். அந்த இரவின் மெல்லிய மௌனம் மட்டுமே அவனுக்கு பதிலாக கிடைத்தது பெருமூச்சுவிட்டு மீண்டும் தனது படுக்கைக்குச் சென்றான்.

அவன் பூமியில் இருந்த நாட்களில் மனிதர்களைப் பற்றி நிறைய புரிந்து கொண்டான். 3 வேலை உணவிற்காக அவர்கள் படும் கஷ்டங்களை உணர்ந்துக் கொண்டான். மனிதன் தன்னை அறிவாளியாக கருதிக் கொண்டு பற்பல கண்டுபிடிப்புகளை அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறான் – ஆனால் அவை அனைத்தும் ஏதோ ஒரு வகையில் அவன் அழிவுக்கு வித்திடுவதை அவன் ஏற்க மறுக்கிறான். 24 * 7 பிஸியாக நகரும் அவன் வாழ்க்கையில் நண்பர்களுக்கோ உறவினர்களுக்கோ ஏன் கடவுளுக்கு கூட கொடுக்க நேரம் மிச்சம் இல்லை. இந்த மனித இனம் மனதில் ஒன்றை வைத்துக் கொண்டு வெளியில் வேறொன்றை சொல்லும் கலையில் வல்லவர்களாய் வளம் வருகின்றனர். மனித உணர்சிகள் அவனுக்கு குழப்பமாய் தோன்றியது. தங்கள் இதயங்களை வெளிப்படுத்தும் அவர்களின் வழி வித்தியாசமானது தான்.

“நீ வேலைக்கு செல்ல ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும் கேப்ரியல்” ஒரு நாள் காலையில் டியானா கூறினாள்.

“எத்தனை நாட்கள் தான் இப்படி சோம்பேறியாகவே சுற்றி திரிய போகிறாய்” அவள் கவலையுடன் கூறினாள்.

“வேலையை நினைத்து நீ கவலைபடாதே. உன் அழகு முகத்திற்கு ஏற்ற ஒரு வேலையை நான் ஏற்கனவே உனக்காக கண்டுபிடித்து விட்டேன்” என்று சிரித்தாள்.

“சீக்கிரம் குளித்து விட்டு நல்ல ஆடையாக பார்த்து அணிந்துக் கொண்டு கீழ இறங்கி வா. உன் வேலை உனக்காக காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது” என்றாள் புன்னகையுடன்.

விரைவில் அவர்கள் நகரின் மையத்தில் கண்ணாடி ஜன்னல்களால் போர்த்தப்பட்ட ஒரு உயரமான கட்டிடத்தை அடைந்தனர். அவள் கேப்ரியலை 10 வது மாடியில் உள்ள அலுவலக அறைக்கு இழுத்துச் சென்றாள். அந்த அறை ராஜாக்களின் இருப்பிடம் போல் காட்சியளித்தது – சிவப்பு கம்பளங்களால் போர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்தது. அந்த அறையின் நடுவில் ஒரு கண்கவர் மேசை போடப்பட்டிருந்தது. அங்கு இரண்டு மனிதர்கள் பேசி சிரித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தனர் – அவர்களில் ஒருவன் குட்டையாகவும் மற்றொருவன் உயரமாகவும் இருந்தான்.

டியானா அந்த உயரமான மனிதனைக் கட்டி அனைத்துக் கொண்டு “ஏய் ரால்ப், இங்கே என்ன செய்கிறாள்?” என்று சிரித்துக் கொண்டே கேட்டாள்.

அவள் குட்டை மனிதனைப் பார்த்து புன்னகைத்து “ஹலோ மைக், எப்படி இருக்கீங்க? இது கேப்ரியல், என் நண்பன். இவனுக்கு தான் உங்கள் உதவி தேவைப்படுகிறது”.

குழப்பத்தில் தன் தலையை தேய்த்துக் கொண்டு கேப்ரியல் அமைதியாய் நின்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.

டியானா கேப்ரியேலை நோக்கி “ஏய் கேப்ரியல்,  இவன் தான் ரால்ப். என் வருங்கால கணவர்” என்று வெட்கத்துடன் கூறினாள்.

“இது மைக், ரால்பின் நண்பர். மைக் தான் ஏஞ்சல்ஸ் இன்க் நிறுவனத்தின் தலைமை மேலாளர். உலகளாவிய பல பேஷன் ஷோக்களை மைக்கின் நிறுவனம் தான் நடத்துகிறது. அவர்களின் அடுத்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு உன்னை ஒரு மாடலாக பணியமர்த்த மைக் ஒப்புக் கொண்டுள்ளார்” என்றாள்.

“இதற்கெல்லாம் நீ ரால்பிற்க்கு தான் நன்றி சொல்ல வேண்டும். அவன் தான் மைக்கிடம் உனக்காக பேசினான்” என்று புன்னகையுடன் கூறினாள்.

வருங்கால கணவன் என்று டியானா கூறியதும் கேப்ரியேளின் இதயம் ஒரு நொடி துடிப்பதை நிறுத்திக் கொண்டது. அவள் பேசிய மற்ற எந்த வார்த்தைகளும் அவன் செவிகளை எட்ட வில்லை. இனம் புரியாத சோகமும் கோபமும் அவன் மனதை நிரப்பியது. தனக்கு முன் நின்றுக் கொண்டிருந்த அந்த உயரமான மனிதனை ஓங்கி அறைய வேண்டும் போல் தோன்றியது. எப்படியாவது அந்த இடத்தை விட்டு தப்பி செல்ல வேண்டும் என அவன் கால்கள் துடி துடித்தது. கேப்ரியேலுக்கு என்ன செய்வதென்றே புரியவில்லை. “இது என்ன புது வித உணர்வு. அவனின் சொர்க்க சக்திகள் அவனை எச்சரிக்க நினைக்கிறதா? ஆனால் இந்த மனிதன் மிகவும் நல்லவனாய் தெரிகிறானே. அவன் முன் பின் அறியாத எனக்கு உதவி செய்ய நினைக்கும் இவன் நிச்சயம் நல்லவனாக தான் இருப்பான். பின்னை ஏன் இந்த புரியாத உணர்வுகள். இந்த மனித உடல் என்னிடம் என்னதான் சொல்ல நினைகிறது? மனித உணர்சிகள் மிகவும் குழப்பமானவை” என தனக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக் கொண்டான். முடிந்த வரை தன் உணர்சிகளை மறைத்துக் கொண்டு புன்னகையுடன் அங்கு நின்றான்.   

அந்த சந்திப்பிற்கு பின் கேப்ரியல் ஏஞ்சல்ஸில் ஒரு மாடலாக தனது வேலையைத் தொடங்கினான். தனியாக வாழ பயந்ததால் அவன் டியானாவின் வீட்டிலே தங்கினான். மனிதனாக வாழ முயற்ச்சி செய்தான். ரால்ப் அடிக்கடி டியானாவை சந்திக்க வருவான். அப்படி அவன் வரும்போதெல்லாம் கேப்ரியல் எங்காவது போய் ஒளிந்து கொள்வான். ரால்பை பார்க்கும் போதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குள் தோன்றிய அந்த உணர்சிகளை அந்த கண்ணீர் துளிகளை அவனால் புரிந்த கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. எனவே அவன் தன்னால் முடிந்ததைச் செய்தான். ரல்பை சந்திப்பதை முற்றிலும் தவிர்த்தான்.

மின்னல் வேகத்தில் 6 மாதங்கள் உருண்டோடின. அது டியானா மற்றும் ரால்ப் (ரபேல் தான் அவன் முழு பெயர்) இருவரின் திருமண நாள். திருமண விழாவுக்குப் பிறகு டியானாவும் ரால்பும் லண்டனுக்குச் குடிபெயர போவதால் கேப்ரியல் டியானாவை காணும் கடைசி நாள் அது.

இந்த மனித உலகில் கேப்ரியலுக்கு  மிக முக்கியமான நபர் டியானா. அன்றிரவு அவள் தான் அவனைக் காப்பாற்றினாள். முன் பின் அறியாத அந்நியனை அழைத்துச் சென்று உணவளித்தாள். வேலை கூட தேடி தந்தாள். அவன் தேடி வந்த கேள்விக்கான பதிலின் ஒரு பகுதியை அவள் அவனுக்குக் வெளிப்படுத்தினாள். பல அற்புதமான மனிதர்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்தினாள். பல அற்புதமான நினைவுகளை உருவாக்கி தந்தாள். டியானா – அவனுக்கு உதவ இறைவன் அனுப்பிய காவல் தேவதை. இன்று இரவிற்கு பின் இந்த மனித உலகில் தான் தனியாக வாழ வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் அவனுக்கு அச்சமூட்டியது.

அந்த பழைய தேவாலயத்தில் திருமணம் நடந்தது. தேவாலயம் வெள்ளை கார்னேஷன்களாலும், ஹைட்ரேஞ்சாக்களாலும் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. தனது வெள்ளை நிற கவுனில் டியானா பிரமிக்க வைத்தாள் – அவளின் மினுமினுக்கும் கிரீடத்தையும் அவள் கைகளில் அடைக்கலம் கொண்டிருந்த அந்த அழகிய மலர்களையும் கண்ட அனைவருக்கும் – அவள் ஏதோ ஒரு விசித்திரக் புத்தகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த இளவரசி போல் தோன்றியது.

விழா நெருங்கிய உறவினர்கள் மற்றும் நண்பர்கள் மத்தியில் நடந்தது. ஆனால் ஏனோ இவை அனைத்தும் தவறாய் தோன்றியது. “இது சரி இல்லை, இதை எப்படியாவது தடுத்து நிறுத்து. டியானாவை இங்கிருந்து போக விடாதே” என்று அவன் மனம் கூச்சலிட்டது. “ஆனால் தன் கனவு வாழ்க்கையை நோக்கி சிறகடிக்கும் அவளின் இந்த பயணத்தை தடுத்து நிறுத்த நான் யார்” என்று தனக்குள்ளே சொல்லி கொண்டான் கேப்ரியல்.

தம்பதியினர் தங்கள் மோதிரங்களை பரிமாறிக்கொண்டனர், பாதிரியார் அவர்களை கணவன் மனைவியாக அறிவித்தார். விழா முழுவதும் மகிழ்ச்சியோடும் சிரிப்போடும் நிறைவுற்றது.

தனது புதிய உலகத்திற்கு செல்வதற்கு முன், டியானா கடைசியாக ஒரு முறை கேப்ரியலைக் கட்டி அனைத்துக் கொண்டு, “நீ உயிரோடு இருக்கும் வரைக்கும் உன் மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைவதர்க்கான நம்பிக்கை நிச்சயம் இருக்கும்” என்று கிசுகிசுத்து, தொலைதூர தேசத்திற்கு பறந்தாள்.

ANGEL’S MISSION – CHAPTER I

The great congregation of angels gathered together under the same roof on that special day – The jubilee festival celebrated once every 70 years. Laughter and joy filled the heavens. It was a day of celebration. The one day the angels could take their day off from their heavenly duties. The kingdom of heaven worked in mysterious ways. There were different legions of angels each with their own assigned duties. Each legion had a different purpose. Some were trained soldiers to fight against devils while others were messengers. There were separate legions for each domain. There was a human legion, forest legion, aquatic legion so on and so forth. It was the day they all gather together to testify their thoughts without a worry and enjoy the company of the others.

In the middle of the congregation there was a magnificent white throne upon which God was seated. Before him there stood a little podium in which the angels stand to speak their minds.

An angel from the aquatic legion stood on the podium and said “Dear angels, these days the angels in our legion are working too hard. We do our best to protect the aquatics from the cruel hands of humans. But still, we are rendered helpless. With rising ocean temperature and tonnes of dumped plastics – those humans are going too far. It’s not like they own the entire earth” he said with fuming anger.

An angel from the forest legion stood up from his seat and said “I agree, they are burning forests without thinking about the consequences. What is the point in being the most intelligent species. If this goes on, eventually they will run out of oxygen and perish – they couldn’t even understand such a simple math. Those idiotic humans are driving us crazy” she said with a shudder. The entire congregation nodded their heads in unison to her statement.

Soon the leader angel from the calamity legion stood up and said “you guys are right. We have to stop them before the situation worsens. Right now, our legion is working on an invisible weapon. Once it is released, humans won’t be able to step out of their houses. They will be forced to shut down all their activities for atleast an year. It will give us enough time to replenish the entire earth and carry out damage control” he said with a prideful smile. The entire congregation was filled with joy – a chance to save earth from those idiots they thought.

Of all the legions of the heaven, the human legion had the toughest job. They were hated by their fellow angels and they had to work with humans – the most unpredictable species. They could never understand them. And the fact that each human was unique with their own thoughts and mysteries – made their job much harder.

A young curious angel from the human legion flew down from his seat to the podium. The entire congregation went silent upon seeing him. The young angel cleared his throat and began to talk “Dear God, for the past decades I have been working with humans and this one question has been nagging me all along. What is wrong with suicide? Why do you consider it as a sin? Isn’t it the easiest way to escape reality? Rather than living an entire life in despair don’t you think it’s much better to run away from it?” He said with sparkling doey eyes like a 5 year old toddler. There was commotions and whispers among the angels. He must be mad – the angels whispered among themselves.

The God smiled at the curious young angel and said “O my little one, It is indeed intriguing, isn’t it? Why the human species alone considers that life is something within their power – that can end and begin whenever they want. You had the courage to talk about a mystery not many angels could grasp. But the answer to your question is not something that can be explained by mere words but something that has to be experienced with all your heart. So, my little one take, it as your mission. Return to the human world and discover the truth that is hidden in the deepest depths of human realm” the Lord said and smiled. Soon a cloud of fire engulfed the young angel and in the blink of eye he found himself in the human realm. And there was more, his wings had disappeared and he himself was a human.

All those thoughts flooded his mind on that full moon night when the young angel stood beside the train tracks on that lonely part of the city. It’s been almost 3 days since the young angel had turned into a human. And those 3 days felt like hell. Though he was quite familiar with the human world, he couldn’t find a way to earn money and eventually he couldn’t find food. He slept in the streets and drank water from public fountains and that’s what kept him alive all along.  “I was so stupid. Why did I even asked such a hideous question. Though God smiled that day, I think he was just messing with me. Otherwise why would he banish me to this place. It’s much crueler than hell” He sighed. 3 days without food started messing up his mind and somehow he came up with the dumbest plan. “Human souls which are not tainted by sin reach heaven after death. From the moment I reached this place, I haven’t committed even a single sin. So, if I could die, my soul would go back to heaven. Then I can beg god to forgive me for asking such a stupid question and return back as an angel” he thought to himself. That’s why he was there, in the middle of the train track on a full moon night. Without an ounce of food his consciousness was slowly fading. The faintest sound of the train filled the night and kept on growing with time. “Though it is foolish, this is the only way” he told himself and shut his eyes tight. The train approached him at lightening speed.

Before he could understand the happenings of that night, a pair of hands pulled him swiftly out of the tracks and he landed on top of a human. All those days of terror were too much to take up for his simple mind and soon darkness filled his sight and he fell unconscious.

The next morning, he found himself wrapped under sheets in a comfortable bed. He was confined inside four walls painted in pastel colours. The room felt like home – cozy and comfortable. There was a faint smell of pancakes that lingered in the air. He stumbled his way following the amazing aroma into the kitchen. There was a girl wrapped in her aprons. She was happily humming a song while cooking the pancakes. She was quite short. She had chocolate coloured skin with a cute bob. She seemed to be in her early 20s. She noticed his presence and invited him to take a seat. As soon as she placed the food in front him, he gobbled it up like a hungry cat. She gently smiled at him and said “hello, I’m Tiena and this is my home. Last night I found you in the middle of the tracks trying to end your life. So, I pulled you out and you fell unconscious. Do you know how much you weigh? I literally dragged you here” she laughed trying to cheer up the atmosphere. But the man was too focused on the pancakes. “Now tell me about you” she asked with curious eyes.

Of course, he couldn’t reveal the truth that he is a banished angel. The one thing he was sure that humans usually imprison insane people and conduct weird experiments on them. The moment he reveals the truth about his angel life, they will definitely come for him. He decided to tell her the twisted version of his story. “You can call me Gabriel (it was how people called his leader angel when once he came down to earth to proclaim the arrival of Jesus). My dad kicked me out of the house. I don’t have a job. I don’t even have money for food. So, I thought ending my life is the best way to escape” He said still gulping down those delicious pancakes.

Tiena glanced the man who was too immersed in his food. He was a young man in his early 20s. He had the face of an angel glowing with shine. But his attire gave a different story. It was shabby and had holes poking out here and there. But there was something in his eyes that drew her attention – the innocent eyes of a 5 year old not tainted by the world. That night, when he had almost died – the man’s eyes begged her to save him from the demons he was running away from. It wasn’t a rational decision to bring a stranger into her home but something touched her heart. And because of that unknown feeling here she is now feeding a total stranger and smiling at him though he could at any moment grab the knife kill her and run away. “You sure wasn’t thinking straight last night” Tiena told herself.

“Maybe I could help” Tiene said. “But before that we have to go somewhere important” Tiena said. She gave Gabriel a set of new clothes and forced him to take a shower. After a 20mins drive both Tiena and Gabriel landed in front of an old church. She dragged him inside and they sat in the middle near a window. The sermon went for an hour. After the sermon, Tiena dragged him to introduce to a group of people who were happily chatting outside the church doors.

“Hello everyone” Tiena said with a smile. Every single head in that little group greeted Tiena with a warm smile. “This is Gabriel, my friend” she introduced the young man beside her. A middle-aged woman in the group patted Gabriel in the shoulders with a warm smile and asked “Hey young man, how are you? Your first time in church huh?”. Soon a little girl came running from nowhere and bumped into Gabriel. Tiena squatted down and hugged the little girl. She spoke to her with a gentle smile “Hey teddy bear, where are you running?”. There was no reply from the girl. The little girl had drool all over her face, and couldn’t talk. She felt different. She eyed Tiena once again and ran away. Then an old man in the little group turned towards Gabriel and said “Hey young man, you look handsome, you know. Do you have a girlfriend? If not, I can introduce my granddaughter” he said with a wink. The little group burst into laughter. The chatterings continued for a long time. Tiena said her goodbyes and they began their drive back home.

The drive was silent and awkward. With Tiena humming a song to make it less awkward and Gabriel sulking in his own thoughts. After a little while, Tiena broke the silence and started talking. “What do you think about those people. aren’t they sweet?” she said. “Yes. They smile with all their hearts. Without a single worry in their thoughts” Gabriel said. “You know what. It wasn’t always like this. They had their own share of miseries in the past. That middle-aged women and her little girl Lizy. Well, she is a single mother and Lizy is an autistic child. Her husband died in a car accident when Lizy was 2 years old. Her entire world went dark. During those days she had to take care of her child all alone. Having 3 meals a day and a simple roof above their heads itself felt like a war. There were days were ending their lives seemed to be the easiest path. But they believed in God in those hard times. They believed that oneday they would find light. After a year a rich man in our church offered to sponsor for Lizy and offered a job for Lizy’s mom in his company. Look at them now. The smile in their faces. The shine brigher than the stars.

The old man that greeted you. He was a friend of my mom. Almost 20 years before he had one of the most thriving business in our neighborhood. But he was betrayed by his business partners who were his best friends. He lost all his wealth and was driven to the streets. His wife divorced him and took custody of their daughter. Life was cruel to him those days. He would usually sleep near the church gates during those days. But he never gave up hope not even once. Later he started another business right from scratch and he doubled all his wealth within a year. He is the one who is currently supporting Lizy.

Each person in that small group have a story to tell. All these people have one thing in common.

When their world became dark

When they felt like dying

When they lost their everything

Even their last bit of smile

They were sure about one thought

As long as they are alive there is hope

As long as they breathe they can find light

As long as they reach tomorrow they can find their paradise.

So please don’t do this again Gabriel. never ever try to end your life again. As long as you are alive you can reach your happiness”. Tiena said. Little drops of tears adorned her cheeks that moment.

Gabriel just nodded to her words. The ride back home was filled with silence. Gabriel pondered over the words Tiena said, a million times in his mind. It was something new to the young angel.

Tiena took care of Gabriel – prepared the guest room for him and cooked an amazing dinner. That night Gabriel went to the rooftop. He lifted his eyes to the sky and started talking. “Dear lord, I don’t know whether there is a nearby angel who could carry my message to you. Today, I heard something different. I met a lot of humans and heard their stories. Maybe I was wrong.

Though giving up on life

Might seem like the easiest way out

On desperate times

As simple as clicking the restart button in video games

But if humans could gather up the courage

To fight those dark times

If they could resist the urge

To give up their quest

If they could find atleast one reason

To see tomorrow’s birth

They will find light

They will reach their dream life and happiness

They will reach their paradise

As long as they live there is hope

he blurted out.

The louder he said those words, the more confusing it felt. The young angel felt that something was missing in his words. He felt like he is missing the key piece to his puzzle. He felt that the last part of his answer was still out of his reach. But he hoped he was wrong. He looked around to see if there was an answer. If there was any sign he could return back to heaven. But all there was left was only silence. He sighed and went back to his bed.

During the week he understood a lot about humans. How they drag themselves to the job the hate so they could buy 3 meals a day. How they regard themselves as the ultimate species and wish to rule the entire world but end up destroying it. How they keep their lives busy 24*7 just to run away from their fears. For most of them God was like their Kinder Garden friend, the one they loved most when they were children but eventually lost his contact – they just couldn’t fit him into their daily schedules. They way humans twist up their emotions and blurt out words they never meant. Their weird ways of expressing their hearts.

“We should find you a job” Tiena said one morning.

“You can’t just laze around” She said with concern.

“But you do look handsome. You can make lots of money with that face of yours alone” she laughed.

“I know just the place for you. Get ready, put on your best clothes. We are going somewhere important” she said with a smile.

Soon they reached a tall building filled with glass windows in the center of the city. She dragged Gabriel to the office room on the 10th floor. It felt like a king’s chambers with royal red carpets and an antique custom table. There were 2 men chatting happily. One of them was short and other was tall. Tiena dragged Gabriel into the room with a huge smile.

She hugged the tall man and said “Hey Ralph, what’re doing here huh?”

She smiled at the short man and said “Hello Mike, how are you? This is Gabriel, my friend, the one who needs your help”.

She understood the confused looks Gabriel was giving her.

“Hey Gabriel, meet ralph. He is my fiancé” she said with a blush

“And this is Mike, Ralph’s friend. Mike is the chief manager of ANGELS inc. They do the hiring for most of the global fashion shows. He has agreed to take you in as a model for their next show”. She said.

“It’s all thanks to Ralph. He was the one who convinced Mike” she said while blushing.

The word fiance was the last thing that reached Gabriel’s ears. There was a tug in his heart that he couldn’t understand. He felt anger and sadness all mixed together at the sight of the tall man. He felt a lump in his throat that blocked his voice. He wished he could just run away from the gaze of the tall man. He could sense that something was terribly wrong. Though Ralph seemed like a gentle man who is trying his best to help him at this moment, some-how he had an urge to just punch him in his face. Is it his angelic senses trying to warn him? or is it his human heart pouring out confusing signals? “Human emotions are confusing” Gabriel told himself and tried his best to put on a forced smile.

After that day Gabriel began his work as a model in ANGELS. He stayed together with Tiena as he was still afraid of living alone. He picked up several human skills and did his best to be a human. Ralph would often visit Tiena and whenever Gabriel saw him he felt sick, sad and confused. Somedays even tears rolled by without a warning. He couldn’t understand what his heart was trying to tell him. So he did his best. He avoided him. He locked himself in his room just to hide away from him.

Somehow 6 months went by in the blink of eye. It was the day of Tiena and Ralph’s (Raphael) wedding. It was the last day Gabriel could spend with Tiena because Tiena and Ralph are moving to London right after the wedding ceremony.

Tiena was the most important person for Gabriel in the human realm. She saved him that night. Took in a stranger and even found him a job. She gave him wonderful memories. She gave him a part of the answer he was desperately looking for. She introduced her to many wonderful humans. She was her guardian angel. The fact that after today, he won’t be seeing her any soon and he had the face the human world all alone felt like a heavy burden.

The wedding took place in that old church. The church was covered in white carnations and hydrangeas all around. Tiena looked stunning in her white gown that had a huge trail. She wore a sparkling crown with a long veil. She looked like a princess from a fairy tale book.

The ceremony went on amidst close relatives and friends. But throughout the day, Gabriel felt that something was wrong. Something was utterly wrong and he just couldn’t figure what it was. His heart was swirling like a stormy sea. Something told him that this could bring immense grief into her life. He had this great urge to stop this entire wedding and beg Tiena to stay here with him.

But who is he to prevent Tiena from choosing her dream life. A nobody from nowhere with nothing. He doesn’t even have a name. So he did his best to hide those useless thoughts that tormented his heart. The couple exchanger their vows and the priest announced them as husband and wife. The ceremony ended with joy and laughter all around.

Before heading into her new world, Tiena hugged Gabriel one last time and whispered “As long as you live there is hope” and soon drove off to a distant land.
